CURRICULUM VITAE László Melis Composer 1953-2018 Contact: melismarta17@gmail.com László Melis was born in 1953 in Budapest. He graduated from the violin department of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in 1975. Since 1978 he has been a charter member of the Group 180 contemporary ensemble. He performed with his group in many concert halls of Europe until 1990 when the group was disbanded. He wrote several pieces for the group most of which have been recorded, and during this time he played with musicians who have defined today’s music like Louis Andriessen, Steve Reich, Péter Eötvös, György Kurtág, Zoltán Jeney or Terry Riley. Since Group 180 ceased, he has been occupied basically with composing. His two chamber operas are The Land of Smile (1985) and Kleist Dies (1994). He has composed several cantatas: Mulomedicina Chironis (1987), The Apocalypse of Enoch (1997) ; evening long ballet music: Pearl Canon (1994), Armenian Legend (2001), Lost World (2003); songs for large orchestra ordered by the BFO: New and New Horse (1996) ; chamber works: Cellomania (2000), Running Amok (2007), and solo instrumental pieces: A la Carte (2005), Black and White Suite for solo piano (2008); vocal pieces: Iphigeneia in Aulis choral songs in ancient Greek (1998), and Of Time and the River (2001) for Voces Equales. His piece titled as Over..re ordered by the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio had its first performance in January 2010. He composed a thirty minutes piece for the Budapest Festival Orchestra titled as DIONYSIA it had its first performance in the Palace of Arts (MÜPA) played by the Budapest Festival Orchestra, conductor Iván Fischer in September 2010. On commission by the Budapest Palace of Arts he composes an opera in Ancient Greek language based on Bacchae by Euripides. In addition he composed the soundtrack for several dozen feature films, and music for more than hundred theatre plays.
